Student Scientific Research Award – Euréka is a prestigious award for students interested in scientific research across the country, contributing to promotion of scientific research movement of universities’ students. The award is hosted by Ho Chi Minh Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with National University of Ho Chi Minh City.
In order to join the Student Scientific Research Award – Euréka, students undergo rigorous academic research at the school level, which is highly valued by the university academic board before enroll to the semi-final of the Award at Ho Chi Minh City. Thanks to that special attention and investment, the prizes have been raised in both size and quality.
Participants are students who currently studying at colleges, universities and academies nationwide. In order to ensure the process, quality and number of participants, the Organizing Committee only accepts enrollment from school, does not accept registration as an individual. To participate in the Awards, schools have the responsibility to set up scientific councils to mark and evaluate the quality of the topic and to select high quality subjects to enroll.
In 2018, the Award was attended by 903 subjects, 2,263 candidates, representing 106 universities and colleges, academics from 24 provinces nationwide participated in the semi-final Award, with 348 Scientists/Experts evaluated the submitted subjects.
The awards cover a total of 12 areas, including: Social and Humanities; Education; Economy; Juridical; Technology; Planning, Architecture and Construction; Information Technology; Chemical and Pharmaceutical Technology; Biotechnology – Biomedical; Agriculture, Forestry and fishery; Natural Resources and Environment, Food Technology. The Organizing Committee receives the application and establishes a scientific committee separately in each area.
Candidates participating in the Award will have the following activities:
- Prequalification: Register at the school. Here, the School Council will summarize, evaluate and select high quality subject and send Organizing Committee.
- During this time, the Organizing Committee will support schools, provinces to organize seminars, reports on methods of scientific research, creative methodology; Assist students of the school to refer topics from the Euréka bank, research library.
- Semi-final round: The Organizing Committee organized a Scientific Council according to each discipline, field, and area; to gradeand select high qualify subjects to the final round. Moreover, Organizing Committee also organized the Euréka Scientific Research Student Camp in 2018.
- Final round and Award ceremony: The final round is organized with many activities to create, exchanges and connect candidates. Candidates will be stay focused for 3 days and participate in many activities of the Awards such as presentations to the Scientific Council, Networking with students of universities and colleges and visiting key projects of Ho Chi Minh City such as High Tech Park, High Tech Agriculture Park, Biotechnology Center; Visiting the historical monuments of the city.
Organizing committee and representatives of scientific councils will select from the topics that won the first prize in all fields, selecting one subject with the highest quality and having the highest score to award special prizes worth: VND 20,000,000 / award + Merit of the Ministry of Science and Technology. In each area of the contest will be structure and level as:
- 1 First place prize: 10,000,000 VND and Merit of Ministry of Science and Technology.
- 1 Second place prize: 5,000,000 VND and Merit of the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City.
- 1 Third place prize: 3,000,000 VND and a Certicate from the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City
- Consolation prizes: 2,000,000 VND and a Certicate from Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City.
- All participants will be awarded a Certificate of Participation in the Student Scientific Research Award – Euréka 20th in 2018.
Individuals and instructors directly instruct students who won special prizes and the first prize will be offered for merit by the Ministry of Education and Training or the merit from the People’s Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; Instructors who have won the second and third prizes will be awarded certicate from Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City.
The topic which won the special prize and first prize will be considered by the organizing committee to publish a scientific paper in the Young Science Journal of the Center of Science and Technology Development for Youth (ISSN: 2354 – 1105), or Journal of Science and Technology Development of Vietnam National University of Ho Chi Minh City after being criticized by the Scientific Council.
In addition, after the closing ceremony and awarding ceremony, Center of Science and Technology Development for Youth – from Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City assists the author to register intellectual property rights; Introduce high performance and application themes for agencies and enterprises to deploy the application; Introduction to enrollment in the Young Scientist Science and Technology Incubator Program, Youth Science Nursery; introduction to competitions, scientific and technological awards nationwide.
