Old Computer, New Knowledge organized by The Center of Science and Technology Development for Youth – Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Ho Chi Minh City. With this program, the Organizing Board received old used or liquidated computers of individuals and units. After that, the volunteered will repair, upgrade and donat to individuals, units and localities in difficult circumstances in suburban districts and neighboring provinces.
Old Computer- New knowledge has become a knowledge bridge, connecting the hearts of individuals and businesses s on the spirit of volunteering, sharing and joining forces. The program has been supporting young people in difficult circumstances with the computer to write their dream and pursue creative passion. In addition, with the support of equipment from the program, units and localities with difficult economic conditions have more facilities to perform tasks, improve their work efficiency.
In the period from 2013 to now, the program “old computer – new knowledge” has received more than 1,000 old computers, repair and donate 921 computers, 20 computer labs for difficult localities in suburban districts (Cu Chi, Can Gio, Hoc Mon, Nha Be); Donating computers and computer labs for the Youth Union of Long An, Dong Thap, Binh Phuoc, Dak Nong, Dak Lak, Kon Tum, Kien Giang, Hau Giang, Binh Thuan, Tien Giang, Tay Ninh, Association of Blind People of Tra Vinh and disadvantaged students in Ho Chi Minh City, students are directly affected by natural disasters, floods in Quang Binh. The program also offers free internet tutorials for union members, youth and workers. From 2013 up to now, 80 courses have been opened and more than 1150 students have been trained in basic computer skills.
There are various purposes for the donated computers such as: popularizing information for local people; to provide facilities for units in remote areas; Increase effectivity for students in learning.
In 2018, the Organizing Board of the “Old Computer – New Knowledge” would like to receive the attention of contributing old computers, cash from people, enterprises and social organizations so that we have more sources for the program, to bring new sources of knowledge to the people and children in difficult circumstances.
